The type D Survial Knife was introduced into service in the early 1950's. The knives were made by a number of manufacturers and issued to all branches of the British Military. The blades of the knives were marked with designations to identify which service they were issued to. Codes beginning 27C were issued to the RAF (See pages 101 & 102 of Flook's book "British and Commonwealth Foghting Knives"). See more below.
This heavy duty knife has a 7.25 inch single edged oval shaped blade. It measures 12.5 inch overall and has a plain wood contoured grip. The knife comes complete with its original leather sheath. I purchased this knife in the 1960's and used it when I was a Venture Scout. Stamped Rogers Sheffield England and on reverse 27C/2360 plus army mark.
