Lovely example of a hollow back general assault badge with nice crisp detail. 100% genuine and from my personal collection of 53 years.
The World War II German Assault Badge (in German: "Das Sturmabzeichen") was a military decoration awarded to soldiers of the Wehrmacht who participated in infantry attacks but weren't infantry soldiers. It was instituted on June 1, 1940, by General Walther von Brauchitsch. The badge was awarded in three different levels, bronze, silver, and gold. The bronze badge was for soldiers that took part in three different battles on three different days. Silver was for the soldiers that took part in six battles on three different days. Gold was for soldiers that took part in six battles on three different days in two different combat areas.
