This portrait has been painted on ivory and measures 7cm in height and 6cm in width. It comes mounted in a large frame for displaying which measures W21cm x H24cm. It depicts Company Sergeant Major Max Bullen of the 87th Regiment of Foot Royal Irish Fusiliers.
There are details listed on the fly sheet on the reverse of the frame. It also lists fifteen locations that he served in - relevant to the Peninsula War of 1807 to 1814 when the combined forces of Great Britain, Spain and Portugal took on the invading and occupying forces of the French Empire, eventually leading to their defeat in Waterloo in 1815.
