Royal Navy Interest- HMS Hood-HMS Rodney and the Sinking of the Bismarck. An extremely rare pair of Barr and Stroud War Department Binoculars, belonging to Admiral Sir Frederick Hew George Dalrymple-Hamilton KCB 1890-1974. He joined the Royal Navy in 1905 and served throughout WW1. He was promoted to Captain in 1931. He served in the 4th Destroyer Flotilla in 1933 and was Captain of the Royal Naval College Dartmouth in 1936. Most significantly he was Captain of HMS Rodney and while in Command, took part in the sinking of the Bismarck. He was on HMS Belfast on D-Day. After the war he had several appointments, the most significant being Admiral at the British Joint Services Mission in Washington DC. HMS Baldur was an administrative Royal Naval base in Reykjavik Iceland. Binoculars and case in extremely good condition.
