The 71st Highlanders were a British Army infantry regiment, formally known as the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot. They were originally raised in 1777 and later merged with the 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot in 1881 to form the Highland Light Infantry.

Victorian shoulder belt plates were an important part of a British officer's uniform during the 19th century, including the Victorian era. These belt plates served both functional and decorative purposes. They were worn as part of the officer's equipment and were often highly ornamented, reflecting the regiment's identity and prestige.
