WW1 German Army 1st patern Bayonet Butcher with original scabbard and leather frog by C.G. Haenel Suhl.  Designed for GEWEHR 98 blade in very good bright  condition for the age. Two German inspection markings on the blued pommel, excellent ribbed wooden grips with oil hole and T-O slot. The ricasso of the blade is stamped with the maker’s mark C.G. HAENEL Suhl’. The spine of the blade is stamped with a crowned ‘W’ over ‘15’, indicating that the blade was manufactured in 1915, during the reign of Wilhelm II.

The WW1 German Army "Butcher" Bayonet (M1898/05) was a standard-issue bayonet used by the German military during World War I. The nickname "Butcher Blade" came from its large, intimidating appearance, resembling a butcher’s knife.
 
Manufacturer: C.G. Haenel, Suhl (a well-known German arms manufacturer based in Suhl, Germany).
 
Markings: Typically stamped with "C.G. HAENEL, SUHL" on the ricasso (the flat section of the blade near the guard).
 
Design:
 
Blade: A long, single-edged blade with a distinctive raised spine and a clipped tip (earlier models had no flashguard, later ones did).
 
Handle: Wood grips with rivets, sometimes with metal flashguards.
 
Scabbard: Usually made of steel, sometimes with leather components.
 
Use: Designed for the Mauser Gewehr 98 rifle, this bayonet was used for close combat and utility purposes.
