Uniform of WW2 German General, Erhard Raus

£25,000.00

Uniform of German General of Austrian descent, Erhard Raus. As can be seen, the uniform was tailored by a Viennese tailor, Rudolf Sattler, in the 1940s, presumably commissioned by the General himself, which was a common practice among German officers. The uniform has a distinct darker mark where an eagle insignia used to be above the right pocket. There are 3-4 tiny holes on the uniform, presumably due to age. Additionally, there was a repair at the bottom, about 0.7 cm. The lining on the back has two worn-out holes. Apart from these, the uniform is in excellent condition.

Erhard Raus was a notable German general during World War II, known for his expertise in armoured warfare. Born on January 8, 1889, in the town of Wolframitz (modern-day Moravský Beroun) in Austria-Hungary, he was of Austrian descent. Raus joined the Austro-Hungarian Army in 1909 and served as an officer during World War I.

After the war, Raus continued his military career in the newly formed Austrian Army. Following the Anschluss (the annexation of Austria by Nazi Germany in 1938), he was integrated into the Wehrmacht, the unified armed forces of Nazi Germany.

During World War II, Raus rapidly rose through the ranks due to his competence in commanding armoured and mechanized units. He served on the Eastern Front, where he participated in significant battles such as the Battle of Kursk and the defense of the Baltic States. Raus was known for his strategic acumen and his ability to conduct defensive operations, particularly in the challenging conditions of the Eastern Front.

Raus was awarded several military honours, including the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, one of Nazi Germany's highest military honours, for his leadership and bravery.

After the war, Raus was held as a prisoner of war by the Allies and later released. He authored several books and studies on military tactics and armoured warfare, which were well-regarded in military circles. Erhard Raus passed away on April 3, 1956, in Vienna, Austria. His contributions to military strategy, particularly in armoured warfare, have been studied by military historians and tacticians worldwide.
