The Queen's Own Lowland Yeomanry pipers' silvered plaid brooch is a distinctive piece of regimental dress insignia used to fasten the plaid—a length of tartan cloth worn over the shoulder as part of traditional Scottish military dress.

Key Points about the Silvered Plaid Brooch:

The brooch is typically made of silver or silvered metal, reflecting the ceremonial and formal nature of the pipers' uniform.

It serves both a functional and decorative purpose, securing the tartan plaid in place while prominently displaying regimental symbols or motifs.

As pipers have a distinct role and dress within Scottish regiments, their uniform accessories, including the plaid brooch, often have unique features or embellishments compared to those of other ranks.

The silvered finish aligns with the traditional use of white metal for pipers’ accoutrements, as noted in British Army dress regulations, where pipers are allowed special uniform distinctions, including the use of white metal badges and fittings.

In summary, the Queen's Own Lowland Yeomanry pipers' silvered plaid brooch is a ceremonial silver metal brooch used to fasten the pipers' tartan plaid, bearing regimental insignia and reflecting their unique dress privileges within the regiment.
