T/RHA/Essex shoulder title - the Essex RHA’s journey is particularly interesting because of its geographic range:

Egypt & Palestine: The 1/1st Essex RHA spent a significant portion of the war in the Middle East. They were involved in the Sinai and Palestine Campaign, battling not just the Ottoman Empire but also extreme heat and desert sand.

The 5th Cavalry Division: After serving as field artillery, their reversion to Horse Artillery in 1918 saw them join the Desert Mounted Corps. They played a role in the dramatic Allied advance through Palestine and Syria, which eventually led to the capture of Damascus.

The Second Line (2/1st): The "Second Line" (essentially a second wave of recruits) ended up serving in the mud of the Western Front in France and Flanders, proving that the Essex name was represented across both major fronts.

Badge Details: The "T" Prefix: identifies the wearer as a member of the Territorial Force.

Design: These "curved" titles were specifically designed to fit the contour of the shoulder.

Lugs/Loops: On the reverse of this badge, you can see the loops are slightly flatter and more "D-shaped". This was common as different manufacturers (often local contractors) had slight variations in their hardware.
