General Information:

The Swiss SIG Stgw 57 (Sturmgewehr 57) MI957 bayonet is a well-known accessory for the Swiss Army's SIG SG 510/Stgw 57 battle rifle, which was standard issue in Switzerland from 1957 until the 1990s.

Overview of the Swiss Stgw 57 MI957 Bayonet:
Design: The MI957 bayonet is robust, designed to match the Swiss Army's reputation for precision engineering. It features a single-edged blade with a prominent fuller (blood groove) running along both sides.

Blade: Made of high-quality steel adding durability for both combat and utility purposes.
Handle: The handle is typically made of polymer or plastic, durable for the rigors of military use. It has a slight curve for better ergonomics and includes a sturdy crossguard to protect the user’s hand.

Locking Mechanism: The bayonet locks securely onto the rifle's barrel with a spring-loaded mechanism, ensuring it stays in place even during intense use.

Markings: Authentic MI957 bayonets typically have serial numbers stamped on the blade or crossguard, which correspond with the rifle they were issued with, a common practice in Swiss military gear for easy tracking and matching.

Collectibility and Value:
Due to its quality and historical significance, the MI957 bayonet is popular among collectors of military memorabilia, especially those focused on Swiss weaponry. The matching serial numbers and original scabbard with a frog increase its value.

Historical Significance:
The MI957 bayonet reflects the Swiss emphasis on precision and quality in their military equipment, as it was designed to be versatile for both close combat and field utility. It serves as an excellent example of mid-20th-century European military craftsmanship, valued by both historical and militaria enthusiasts.
