British 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Officers Sabre

A fine British 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Officers Sabre. The curved single edged blade retains virtually all of its original finish. It is engraved for the first 30% of its length on both faces with geometric and swirling foliage designs. There is no makers mark on this sword. The Gothic design Georgian hilt. Has a single stirrup guard, with extended ‘plover head’ pommel, sharkskin covered grip with original silver wire bindings. The langets are in the shape of pointed shields. The steel scabbard is dent free with overall fine pitting commensurate with age and has twin suspension rings.
