A truly magnificent example of a private purchase British 1796 pattern Light Cavalry Officers Sabre by Pitter & For of Covent Garden London. The curved single edged blade in remarkable condition, is pipe backed with a false edge. It is engraved for its entire length to the point on both sides with bluing for over 60% of its length (no gilding remains). The steel stirrup hilt has a facetted backstrap riveted through ears to the leather covered triple wire bound grip. The langets are of a radiating shell design and add to the beauty of the hilt. The scabbard has one very minor dent and bears the makers cartouche between the top suspension mount and mouth. The twin suspension rings are attached to cruciform mounts on the scabbard.
P&P extra.
